McCaul, Salazar, and Malliotakis Join Peaceful Protesters Demanding Solidarity With the Cuban People
Washington D.C.- Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX), Reps. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL), Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), and their colleagues joined members of the Cuban exile community at Lafayette Square to show their support for the people of Cuba as they mark another anniversary of the sadistic communist revolution.
“Yet again, Cubans are forced to mark another anniversary of that sadistic communist dictatorship. Many have suffered under Castro’s communist regime. And many still have loved ones trapped on the island. The people of Cuba were promised communism would work. They were told to sacrifice their freedoms and ambitions in exchange for a utopia of equality and world class healthcare. Instead, the regime’s cruelty has bankrupted a beautiful country. And it has condemned three generations to misery, while separating countless families. It is time for President Biden to take real, decisive action. The people of Cuba are risking their lives to demand an end to the corrupt communist dictatorship. They want freedom and accountability for human rights violations. They don’t want meaningless gestures. So in the absence of real leadership from the administration, I pledge this members of the Cuban community – the survivors of Castro’s communism. We will exert maximum pressure on the dictatorship.” – Rep. McCaul
“The people of Cuba have taken to the streets demanding one thing and one thing only: freedom!” said Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar. “The Castro regime has cut off the internet on the island to hide how their thugs brutalize and repress the Cuban people. The United States must help the Cuban people get back online so they can organize freely and denounce the repression their facing. I am forever grateful to my colleagues for all their solidarity and support for the people of Cuba in their fight against socialist tyranny!”
“As the daughter of a Cuban refugee, I was proud to join members of the Cuban-American community outside of the White House this afternoon to continue to push the Biden Administration to help liberate the Cuban people,” said Congresswoman Malliotakis. “The Cuban people have had enough of the communist regime; they want liberty, and they want freedom. America is the nation of freedom and opportunity – the beacon of hope around the world. We want the United States, the United Nations, and all democracies around the world to join the Cuban people in their quest for freedom, democracy, and basic human rights.”
