McCaul Releases Updates to Project Detailing the CCP’s Global Malign Influence
Austin, TX – House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul released a statement on updates to a committee report outlining how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is creating economic dependencies via their familiar “debt trap” diplomacy. The report also details updated information on the CCP’s use of soft power efforts, like Confucius Institutes, and hard power efforts, like infrastructure investments, in developing countries.
“It is alarming that this administration is revisiting multiple bilateral dialogues with the CCP, but refuses to take real action against the CCP’s global malign activities. This updated report outlines how the CCP uses ‘debt trap’ diplomacy and other harmful hard and soft power activities in developing countries. The United States, along with the international community, must better come together to develop and act on a wholistic strategy to counter the CCP’s destabilizing actions– it is time to hold them accountable.”
