McCaul Raises Questions on U.S. Assistance to Demobilized FARC Combatants
Washington, D.C.- Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul pressed the Biden administration to clarify what specific foreign assistance the U.S. intends to provide demobilized FARC combatants.
“Following the Biden administration’s decision in November 2021 to remove the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) from the U.S.’s list of Foreign Terrorist Organization, I directed the State Department to consult with the House Foreign Affairs Committee before the administration changed policy or developed new guidance towards demobilized FARC. Since then, I have submitted numerous requests for updates that have either been ignored or insufficiently answered. As the lead Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I take my oversight responsibilities seriously and will be conducting a thorough review on all State Department and USAID funded programs in Colombia. I urge the Biden administration to clarify whether it has modified policy or is developing new guidance on U.S. funding towards demobilized FARC combatants.”
