Washington, D.C. — Congressman McCaul, Republican Leader on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement applauding the Administration for placing sanctions on top Chinese Communist Party officials for their human rights abuses against Uyghur Muslims and other ethnic minorities in Xinjiang. Sanctions were placed on high-ranking officials within the Chinese Communist Party, including one of the most senior leaders Chen Quanguo.

“The Chinese Communist Party has committed unthinkable atrocities against Uyghur Muslims and other ethnic minorities, including mass internment, brainwashing, forced labor, and forced abortions and sterilization,” stated Lead Republican Michael McCaul. “Make no mistake, these are efforts to wipe out their culture, religion, and way of life, force them to worship nothing but the CCP, and reduce their share of China’s ethnic makeup. I commend the Administration for holding the perpetrators of these crimes accountable, and I urge all nations that cherish basic human dignity and freedom to stand with the United States. We must impose consequences on the CCP and stop them from undermining the global norms that every human being deserves.”
