McCaul: “Overjoyed and Relieved” to Hear the News of Trevor Reed’s Release
Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX) has released the following statement on the news that Trevor Reed, a Texas resident and former U.S. Marine, has been released from a Russian prison camp where he was being detained, thanks largely to the hard work of Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs Roger Carstens and U.S. Ambassador John Sullivan. Rep. McCaul, along with Rep, August Pfluger (R-TX), Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), and other Members of Congress, has been pushing to have Trevor released since he was first arrested three years ago.
“I am overjoyed and relieved to hear the news that Trevor Reed has been released from Russian custody. I had the opportunity to meet his family as they worked tirelessly to have him released. Joey and Paula never gave up hope their son would be freed from his unjust imprisonment. Today is that day. Unfortunately, the Kremlin continues to unjustly imprison American citizens, including Paul Whelan and Brittney Griner. It is time for Putin to stop using Americans as political pawns and release both Whelan and Griner back to their families as well.”
