Washington, D.C. –  House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul has released the following statement ahead of tomorrow’s Senate Banking Committee confirmation hearing for the Under Secretary of the Bureau of Industry and Security of the Department of Commerce.

“National security should be the top priority for whomever is the next Under Secretary of the Bureau of Industry and Security of the Department of Commerce. Given Alan Estevez’s experience at the Pentagon and work on CFIUS, he has the requisite national security experience. But I hope to hear him explain how he intends to put national security ahead of industry profits and upgrade our export control system. Because this issue is at the center of U.S. strategic competition with the Chinese Communist Party, I urge my Senate colleagues to get commitments from Mr. Estevez to set clear timetables and adopt comprehensive transparency with Congress on export controls and licensing decisions.”
