Washington, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Ranking Member Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY) issued the following statement commemorating the legacy of Nelson Mandela on the 10th anniversary of his death.

“Today, on the 10th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s death, we commemorate the vast and important legacy that Mr. Mandela left on South Africa, the African continent, and the world through his advocacy for the end of apartheid, the equal treatment of all, and the foundation of a representative democracy. We must all remember Mr. Mandela’s fervent pursuit of an end to racially based discrimination, equal voting rights for all, freedom of the press, and political exclusion in South Africa, and honor his legacy by upholding the firm commitment to free, representative, and democratic societies.”
