Washington, DC – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Congresswoman Young Kim (R-CA) issued the following statement ahead of Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s upcoming trip to China.

“Secretary Blinken cannot allow his engagement with the Chinese government to legitimize the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its propaganda. Secretary Blinken must focus on holding Beijing accountable for its human rights abuses and aggression against its neighbors, as well as pursue tangible outcomes, such as working to cut off China’s fentanyl exports, stopping the CCP’s hostage-taking of American citizens, ending support for Russia’s unprovoked war, and halting further aggression against Taiwan and our other partners in the Indo-Pacific region. We urge the Secretary to demand action and not to settle for more talks or empty promises. We look forward to getting a full briefing from the Secretary’s meetings as soon as he is back in the United States.”
