McCaul Applauds Administration’s Decision to Resume Foreign Assistance to the Northern Triangle
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, made the following statement applauding the Administration’s decision to resume foreign assistance to Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras to support their efforts to address security and economic challenges driving outward migration from the region.
“I applaud the Administration for their decision to provide important foreign assistance to the Northern Triangle countries of Central America. As a native Texan, I know all too well the challenges at our border as a result of migration from Central America. This assistance will help address the root causes of migration from the region, like crime, unemployment and corruption. I also applaud the governments of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador for their commitment to working jointly with the U.S. on reducing migration to America.
“I urge the Administration to keep working with Congress to restore the remaining foreign assistance funding for the region and to develop a clear strategy that ensures that our assistance is effective in meeting our stated objectives.”
