Washington, D.C. – Appearing on Fox News Channel following President Obama’s speech to the United Nations General Assembly, Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, urged the Senate to take up and pass the Nuclear Iran Prevention Act (H.R. 850).  The legislation would increase pressure on the Iranian regime amid its continued attempt to acquire a nuclear weapons capability.   The bill, which passed overwhelmingly in the House of Representatives in July, broadens economic sanctions, strengthens human rights sanctions, and increases oversight of the implementation and enforcement of existing sanctions.

Chairman Royce credits the pressure of existing sanctions for Iran’s recent change in rhetoric.
