Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passage of H.R. 3, a bill to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline:

"With passage by the House, this bill to allow construction of the Keystone XL pipeline moves one step closer to the President’s desk. But instead of planning to sign this bill to create thousands of American jobs and support an economic recovery, the President has promised a veto.  By doing so, President Obama would be failing to seize an opportunity to support struggling American families and improve our energy independence. The President would be ignoring the State Department’s determination that the Keystone XL pipeline’s construction and operation is environmentally safe. I hope, that despite his veto threat, the President chooses to rely on the facts and what is in the national interest — and signs the bill to approve the Keystone XL pipeline.”
