Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, was selected to serve on the Escort Committee to welcome President Park Geun-hye, South Korea’s first female president, to the U.S. Capitol, where she addressed a Joint Meeting of Congress. This is President Park’s first official visit to the U.S. Following her address at the Capitol, Chairman Royce issued this statement:
“As we continue to strengthen our 60-year alliance with a great ally, South Korea, we welcome President Park to our nation’s capital. I am honored to serve on President Park’s Escort Committee and I am very proud to have helped secure this significant opportunity.”
Note: Earlier this year, Chairman Royce led a bipartisan delegation to South Korea where he met with then-President-Elect Park Geun-hye and members of the Korean National Assembly. Former Chairman of the U.S.-Republic of Korea Interparliamentary Exchange, Royce was also one of the leading champions of the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement.
Tonight, at the invitation of President Park, Chairman Royce will deliver remarks to the Korean-American community in Southern California to discuss the 60th anniversary of the U.S.-Korean alliance.
