Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) issued the following statement on today’s announcement of a signed peace deal in Libya:

“Following NATO’s multilateral action to stop the slaughter of civilians and put an end to Qaddafi’s dictatorship, the administration largely washed its hands of Libya and allowed the country to descend into chaos and civil war.  Today Libya is a safe haven for terrorists like ISIS, a launching pad for regional terrorism against Tunisia and Egypt, and a primary transit route for migrants flooding Europe from Africa and the Middle East.

“This announcement is a step toward stopping the violence, but there is much more work to be done.  Bringing the armed militias who do not support this peace deal into the political process will be critical to the stability of the country.”

NOTE:  As Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Royce has made ending Libya’s civil war one of the Committee’s top priorities.  In September 2014, the Committee held a hearing on “Libya’s Descent” which can be viewed in full HERE.
