Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) released the following statement on the administration’s Cuba policy announcement today:

“President Obama’s ‘new course’ with the Castros led to more brutality, more repression, and more political arrests in Cuba.  Cuban workers at foreign-owned resorts are still paid in funny money, if at all.  In fact, the communist regime pockets as much as 95 percent of their salaries.  The administration is right to sideline the Cuban military and make human rights and internet access top priorities moving forward.  We must continue to stand with the Cuban people in their fight for basic freedoms.”
