Chairman Royce Statement on Introduction of Trade Promotion Authority Legislation

Jan 9, 2014

Washington, D.C. Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement in response to the bicameral introduction of trade promotion authority (TPA) legislation:

“Restoring this authority is about selling more American goods and services abroad and creating good paying jobs in the U.S.  With 95 percent of the world’s consumers outside of the U.S., our competitive and innovative businesses, many in California, must not continue to be shut out by high tariffs and bureaucratic barriers abroad. This legislation is needed to help bolster the U.S. economy, which is vital to maintaining our national security.”

Note:  The TPA legislation was introduced today by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI), Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and Ranking Member Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).
