Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) released the following statement regarding the conviction of Cambodian opposition leader Kem Sokha:

“The harassment, persecution and now conviction of opposition leader Kem Sokha is deeply disturbing.  This politically-motivated trial was a sham from the start.

“The people of Cambodia deserve the right to elect the government of their choosing.  Continued government crackdowns on opposition leaders will deeply damage the integrity of Cambodia’s elections process as well as U.S.-Cambodia relations.”

NOTE: This week, Chairman Royce wrote Prime Minister Hun Sen urging the Government of Cambodia to stop harassing and brutalizing Kem Sokha and other opposition leaders.  Read the letter HERE.
