Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued a statement in response to continued violence in Ukraine and reports of possible sanctions from the Administration.

Chairman Royce said: “Last week, the House of Representatives went on record, calling for the ‘utmost restraint’ and avoidance of confrontation in Ukraine.  Significantly, the resolution called for the Administration to impose additional ‘targeted sanctions’ against those individuals responsible for the violence.  Today, the White House indicated that it is considering doing just that.  The President should act now, without delay, before more are killed in the streets of Kiev and elsewhere in Ukraine.”

Note: Last month, the House Foreign Affairs Committee unanimously passed H. Res. 447, authored by Ranking Member Eliot Engel (D-NY), which calls on all sides in the ongoing confrontation in Ukraine to refrain from violence and to work toward a peaceful resolution of the crisis.  On February 10, the House of Representatives passed H. Res. 447.
