“Congressional testimony from the Administration regarding Iran is overdue.  This hearing will provide an opportunity to examine U.S. policy toward Iran.  The hearing will also be a chance to press the Administration on critical questions surrounding U.S. participation in the P5+1 negotiations and its implications for the enforcement of sanctions.”

Chairman Chabot on the hearing:The Obama Administration’s Fiscal Year 2014 request for the Asia-Pacific region is the largest funding increase requested for any regional account.  This substantial increase is part of the Administration’s efforts to not only recognize Asia’s growing importance, but to ensure that the U.S. presence and influence there remains strong.  Given the importance of the Asia-Pacific region, the Subcommittee will hold an oversight hearing to assess how assistance programs in this part of the world are meeting U.S. priorities and national security interests, and to determine whether there are proper measures in place that ensure taxpayer funds are being appropriately used. Whenever a large increase in funding is sought, it is critical that Congress be able to measure the effectiveness of such a request.  Each dollar provided must be justified and yield a substantial return on the American taxpayer investment.”
