Washington, D.C. – Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) announced the following upcoming Committee event:

Wednesday, February 3

Subcommittee Hearing: Turkey: Political Trends in 2016

2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3 in 2172 Rayburn House Office Building

Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), Chairman

Invited Witnesses Include:

Mr. Nate Schenkkan
Project Director

Freedom House

Gonul Tol, Ph.D.
Director
Center for Turkish Studies
Middle East Institute

Chairman Rohrabacher on the hearing: “The US-Turkish relationship was once built on shared values and shared interests, but President Tayyip Erdogan is leading Turkey down a different path. The breakdown of the ceasefire with the PKK, Ankara’s growing support for the Muslim Brotherhood and the ongoing intolerance of dissenting views in the media is disappointing and harmful to Turkish democracy. This hearing will provide a timely opportunity to Members to take part in a discussion on the course of Turkish politics, what can be expected in 2016, and what that might mean for U.S. foreign policy.”
