Democratic Backsliding in Sub-Saharan Africa

This hearing will examine democratic trends, recent events and upcoming elections in sub-Saharan Africa. Members will have the opportunity to question a private panel of researchers and practitioners on the impacts of COVID-19 on elections, Chinese and Russian-facilitated of crackdowns and surveillance of civil society, and U.S. assistance to support democratic governance and elections.
