“I want to thank Ivanka for her tremendous leadership on this issue. As the father of four girls, women rule my household. This initiative will impact 15 million women across the globe. That’s very significant.”

Washington D.C. – This week, House Foreign Affairs Lead Republican Michael McCaul (R-TX) took part in the White House signing ceremony to launch the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative. The W-GDP Initiative, is the first-ever whole-of-government approach to advance women’s full economic participation in the global economy. The Initiative has three pillars of focus that include:

  • Improving women’s access to quality education and skills training
  • Funding and supporting women’s entrepreneurship and access to capital, markets, technical assistance, and mentorship
  • Identifying and reducing barriers to women’s participation in the global economy

Lead Republican McCaul: “Around the world, women face unique economic hurdles making it difficult for them to access capital, secure property rights, and determine their life outcomes. When women are not able to reach their full potential, it hampers the growth of their country’s economy and stalls the progress of their societies. I applaud the Administration for bringing attention to this critical issue and for leading efforts to empower women across the world.”
