McCaul on Defense and Nuclear Partnership with UK, Australia
Washington, D.C. – House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul has released the following statement on the newly announced Australia-United Kingdom-United States (AUKUS) defense and nuclear partnership.
“The threat of CCP military aggression is more imminent than at any time in history, and the new Australia-United Kingdom-United States defense partnership will help deter their belligerent ambitions, including moves against Taiwan. AUKUS’ nuclear cooperation also reflects a new level of trust in what were already the United States’ most durable alliances. It is critical the Biden Administration works to rebuild America’s strategic credibility amid the ongoing aftermath of their disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. Today’s announcement is a welcome step in that direction as we seek to maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
