Chairman Royce Applauds Passage of LNG Legislation
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, applauded House passage of the Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act (H.R. 6). The bipartisan legislation requires the Department of Energy to expedite U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.
On the legislation’s passage Chairman Royce said: “Our European allies are clamoring for U.S. natural gas so they can reduce their reliance on Russia, which continues to use energy as a weapon. Russia is blocking natural gas exports through Ukraine right now. The United States should be ramping up our natural gas exports now, but the Obama Administration is dithering. H.R. 6 cuts the Administration's bureaucratic excuses so we can bolster our national security — and our economy.”
NOTE: Earlier this year, Chairman Royce convened a hearing to examine the geopolitical potential of U.S. energy resources. Royce has been a vocal proponent of the United States taking steps to increase its energy exports, particularly LNG, to benefit the U.S. economy and our security interests worldwide.
