Washington, DC – Congressman Howard L. Berman, Ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement calling for further sanctions on Iran, including sanctions on the Iran Central Bank, in light of today’s report by the IAEA Director General making clear Iran is just steps away from developing a nuclear weapon.

“Today’s landmark report by the IAEA Director-General makes crystal clear to any remaining doubters that Iran is developing a nuclear weapons capability. In response, the international community must step up its support and enforcement of a robust sanctions regime – or risk an unthinkable alternative. Time is short and options are limited. Last week, I proposed moving forward and sanctioning the very core of Iran’s financing of its nuclear program: the Central Bank of Iran. I urge President Obama to make the Central Bank of Iran’s proliferation activity the target of coordinated multilateral sanctions.”
