Washington, D.C. Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, announced that he will convene a hearing on Thursday, April 25 entitled, “The FY 2014 Budget Request: U.S. Foreign Assistance Priorities and Strategy.”  The hearing will begin at 10 a.m.

Chairman Royce on the hearing: “Against the backdrop of crushing U.S. debt, President Obama has finally submitted his $52 billion International Affairs Budget Request.  The U.S. has critical interests overseas that must be protected, but the bar for justifying foreign aid should be higher than ever.  Wasteful spending on ill-conceived, ineffective, and unsustainable programs will not be tolerated.”

“This hearing will provide Committee Members an opportunity to press two key agencies implementing U.S. foreign assistance programs – USAID and MCC – for an explanation of how they will effectively and efficiently use U.S. taxpayer dollars to advance U.S. interests.”
