Ros-Lehtinen Comments on Interpol Decision
to Issue
Capture Notices for Iranians in AMIA Bombing
Executive Committee Endorses Decision Last Week by
Legal Office
(WASHINGTON)
– U.S. Rep. Ileana
Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) today commented on the decision by the Executive Committee
of Interpol to issue capture notices for five Iranians and one Lebanese
Hezbollah leader charged by Argentina
with the 1994 terrorist bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aries
which killed 85 and injured more than 150. Last week, the Office of Legal
Affairs at Interpol recommended the decision announced today by the Executive
Committee. According to Interpol, capture notices will be issued on March 31st
- unless appealed by Iran
- for the following six individuals: Imad Fayez Mughniyah, Ali Fallahijan, Mohsen Rabbani, Ahmad Reza Asghari, Ahmad Vahidi and Mohsen Rezai. Statement of
Ros-Lehtinen:
Interpol’s decision to move forward on
the capture notices for Iranian and Hezbollah officials is a welcomed step
forward in bringing to justice those believed to be responsible for the killing
of innocents.
It is my hope that any appeal by Iran of today’s decision will be
dismissed as a blatant effort to forestall its responsibility for
state-sponsored terrorism in our neighborhood.
