Hyde Statement on UN Oil-for-Food Report
(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Henry J. Hyde (R-IL), Chairman of the House International Relations Committee, commented Thursday on the release of the final report of the Independent Inquiry Committee (IIC) into the Oil-for-Food program:
Throughout the life of the Oil-for-Food program, the United Nations (UN) was repeatedly warned about corruption inside the program linked to Saddam Hussein’s regime. UN management repeatedly ignored obvious warnings of widespread abuses that the IIC so vividly documents in this report. The pattern and practice of corruption illustrated in this latest report highlights the urgent need for systemic UN management reform.
