Hyde Comments on Death of Sudan’s John Garang
(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Henry J. Hyde (R-IL), chairman of the House International Relations Committee, commented today on the death of John Garang, Vice President of Sudan and long-time leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement:
It is with deepest regret that I learn of the death of Dr. John Garang, the newly appointed Vice President of Sudan and long-time leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement. Dr. Garang has been the beacon for the hopes and aspirations of the people of Southern Sudan for three decades. It is my hope that the people of Sudan will ensure Dr. Garang’s legacy of leadership and courage is honored by securing and carrying out the peace that he spent his life seeking and ultimately achieved.
