(WASHINGTON)
-
U.S.
Rep.
Henry
J.
Hyde
(R-IL),
Chairman
of
the
House
Committee
on
International
Relations,
released
the
following
statement
after
the
terrorist
attacks
on
commuter
trains
yesterday
in
Mumbai
(Bombay)
India:
Yesterday’s
terrorist
attacks,
killing
hundreds
of
innocent
people
and
wounding
scores
more,
represent
the
most
cowardly
and
devastating
types
of
attacks
known
to
humanity.
These
poor
souls
were
going
about
their
daily
lives,
commuting
to
and
from
work,
as
we
all
do.
There
is
no
cause,
no
religious
doctrine,
no
grievance,
nor
any
alleged
political
movement
that
can
justify
such
an
atrocious
taking
of
innocent
human
life,
whether
in
New
York,
Washington,
London,
Madrid,
Bogotá,
Mumbai,
or
any
other
city
in
the
world.
Our
thoughts
and
prayers
go
out
to
the
people
of
India
during
this
most
difficult
time.
Hyde
further
stated,
“This
latest
attack
is
once
again
a
warning
and
call
for
continued
vigilance
by
democracies
around
the
globe,
where
these
modern-day
terrorists
live
and
often
take
advantage
of
the
freedoms
that
democracies
provide.”
