Remarks on United Nation’s Lifting
of
Spending Caps
Continued Need for Reform Cited
(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Henry J. Hyde (R-IL), Chairman of the House International Relations Committee, commented today on the decision by the United Nations to lift spending caps:
The G-77 has again frustrated the process of UN reform by lifting the cap on UN funding without first implementing critical reforms. The UN has long been operating with a giant calculator capable of nothing but addition. These additions consist largely of U.S. tax dollars that are being spent on an organization that continues to waste and misuse funds because of its failure to reform. Lifting the spending cap without implementing reforms is a setback in the reform process. Supporters of the UN should continue to press for reform.
